December OMB

It’s been a busy year with doing so many unfinished projects during the year.   Keeps me moving and getting lots of things done.   I found a supply of these little cloches and I LOVE THEM. You will probably see them in the future.

In this festive little room we are waiting for our guests to show up so we can have some snacks and open gifts.   Always fun.

The chair backs have little doll houses featured on them.   Don’t miss the cat who has stacked out her spot.    Oh what fun we are to have!!!!

Watermelon, watermelon and more watermelon.

I love watermelons  and have always had a lot of them in small rooms like my guest bath.   11 or 12 years ago I read about an art display - called 50 creations in 50 days.   The one that caught my attention was 50 Miniature assemblages.    I don’t remember the exact rules of the art contest but I believe it was 6x6 inches.   There were the assemblages, landscapes, portraits, nudes and probably other things.   I thought that takes real concentration to do something for 50 days.   I decided I would do that.   UGH!   Bad.   I got to 8 and decided I didn’t have another original thought on watermelons in my head.   The pictures I display here are only 6 of the 8.   I didn’t think the other 2 worthy of the price of the frame.   It gave me new appreciation of what some people accomplish.   The acrylic in the middle of the display is another attempt to get better at painting.   I like the results.    The 3D pieces are part of my collection of watermelons.

The latest painting I’ve done.  12x12 inches.

Thanks for viewing my blog.

Pears, pears and more pears!

When I retired a little more than 11 years ago, I have a good friend, Pam, who asked me what I was painting.  What prompted her question was I had always said when I retired, I wanted to do lots of painting.   It was about 6 months into my retirement and I hadn’t painted anything.   Well, I got my oils out and after quite a few nights of doing this painting, I came up with this painting.

As I said, it was done in oil and I was pleased with it.   Last year, my friend, Michelle, was moving and she wanted to trade some art work.   She is an amazing assemblage artist, so I got several pieces of her art and she has my pears.   Above they are shown in her guest room.

Okay, they have been gone about a year and I have since switched from oil to acrylics and had worked up some frames I had found and was ready to paint again.   I wanted more pears.

Slightly different in color but I like it.   Here it is in my guest bath..

I decided it needed another pear and this week finished this.

Quite different style, but oh, I do like it.

I have one more pear in my kitchen and I have ordered a frame for it.  It too will join the others in my guest bath.

I do love pears, they are so much fun.

I really

November OMB She Shed in Blue

I love quarter scale projects.   Complete them a bit quicker and they don’t take up much room - considering I am entirely OUT OF ROOM!!!

I ordered this little project a while back and decided it would be the perfect project to finish this month.

I absolutely love my walls full of pictures and you can see one wall has a filled shelf and two paintings.    I haven’s figured out what I will put on the slanting wall, but trust me — something will go there.  I love the little fan in the corner.   Like to have the breeze and noise from a fan.   Missing so far is a few magazines, but somewhere in my stash are some printies and they will eventually be found and added to the couch.

No TV in this room - need to have a space that is free from distractions.

Can’t have a room without an animal - hence the cat!!!

Love this little project and so very glad I got in done this month.

I just love sea shells.  I found this styrofoam head and had this board (upside down cutting board) and had lots of shells.  Yahoo — isn’t she cute!

September and October OMB Projects

Just a bit of catch up.

September One a Month Bunch projects was the interior of my Spanish style house.   A bit earlier in the year was the construction of the house.

I’m not really much into Spanish style but I like this house.

October OMB project was a store front.   A couple of years ago they were the Name Day project and I bought several of them.   I thought a toy shop would be a great project.

It is really cute!!!!

Don’t know what next months project will be, but you’ll know soon.

Oh what a surprise at Church!!!

This past Sunday I was bowed over when I went into church.   I belong to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Key West.   We go to the early service generally and there is a very low attendance at that service.

When I went in, here is what I saw:

The quilts were made by the members of a church in Ohio.   They are generally donated to various organizations in Africa.   This year they chose to give to the victims of Hurricane Irma in Key West.    They were absolutely beautiful.

If you didn’t follow Hurricane Irma, it made quite a hit in the keys.   Most the damage was about 25 miles north of us.   The keys  are made up of a series of Islands spanning 125 miles.   From Key West to the mainland there are 42 bridges that must be crossed.

The quilts reminded me of my husband’s grandmother.   When Ron and I were married, slightly over 50 years ago, his grandmother made us a quilt.   She apologized for not having the money to buy us something.   I told her it was the best gift I got and she could repeat it at any time - which she did.   Quite frankly, it’s about the only gift I still have and can remember.

In a very casual conversation I told her my sister was a bit jealous of me getting a quilt.  She also loved them.   The following Thanksgiving when we were at Ron’s grandmother’s house, she told me there were two quilts on her bed and I could pick out the one I wanted for my sister and I could have the other one.   My sister still has her quilt too.

It was a very pleasant Sunday morning and an inspiring church service.

National Dollhouse Miniature Month

Whew — generally I’d be posting about miniatures every day during October.   I’m sitting out this year.  Hurricane Irma just wore me out.  I’m spending some time working on miniatures and hope you are too!

Re-exploring your town - September 2017 The Shipyard Museum

Getting in the mood to see a museum was unbelievably hard this month.  Hurricane Irma made contact with the keys as a category 4 storm.  Not  Fun !

When I called the museum to see if they had reopened after the storm, the reply was “What storm?”   Love the attitude.

The museum was great fun.  They actually had some damage to their tower and personally it was a blessing to me because had it been open, I would have felt obligated to climb it.

See you next month for our next adventure.

Re-exploring your town - August 2017 - The Harry S Truman Little White House

President Truman loved Key West.   He came 11 times during his presidency.   Amazing that his wife and daughter only came 4 times during the same period of time.  Perhaps it was the poker table that attracted  him to the Island.

Unfortunately you can't take pictures in the Little White House - dignitaries still stay there occasionally and it is a security risk to let everyone take pictures.   I actually worked there as a tour guide in 1995.   When I quit that, my husband did it.   We both enjoyed it!!!

Who can forget this headline.   He wasn't expected to win - but he did.

Even if you can't take pictures inside, you can take them outside.

Margaret too!

They have a really good gift shop of political and presidential things.   Might want to check it out for Christmas gifts.

My blog posts are a little sporadic and if you don't want to miss one - sign up to get an email notice when I post a new blob.    Hope you enjoy it.

Finishing another art and soul project -- a batik quilt

This past April I took a class from Judy Gula on making wall hanging quilts with batik pieces as the centerpiece.   I knew it had to be finish able, maybe not finished, but close.

Finally last Friday I finished it and got it on the wall.  Not too many more projects to do.

So glad to have this one done.
