2013 Virtual Cruise - Day 7 - The Cruise Ends

Day 7, Sunday, September 22: Debarkation   Oh my goodness, it's been a week already.   Ending the cruise there are a couple of auctions and that is always fun.   Maybe I will get something.   The silent auction got 'too rich for my blood', so I will try for other things.

One of my favorite parts of the cruise was the souvenir box and you can see the finished project HERE

Shopping is always fun, especially when I'm buying miniature items.

Time to pack up and go home.   Ohh, it's over.

It is so close to October, remember October is Dollhouse Miniature Month and I post everyday of October about miniatures.   Be sure to check back with this site.   If you don't want to miss it, please sign up to get email updates of postings.

2013 Virtual Cruise - Day 6 - the Galapagos Islands.

Welcome to Day 6 of our Virtual Cruise! We’re at the Galapagos Islands!

Lots of activities are winding down with this cruise rapidly coming ot a close.   Auctions and Sales Rooms are selling stuff and there will be a live auction tomorrow on the last day.   Wonder??   What will I buy???

The Galápagos Islands, official name:  Archipielago de Ciolon are a cluster of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the Equator in the Pacific Ocean, 575 miles west of continental Ecuador, of which they are a part.
These are unusual islands so a little history lesson. These Spanish speaking islands were discovered in 1535 by a Dominican friar was blown off course when heading to Peru, but it was not until the pirate Ambrose Cowley surveyed the islands in 1684 that they were recorded as being there.

The group consists of 18 main islands, 3 smaller islands, and 107 rocks and islets, which is a very tiny land mass.  The islands are located at the junction of 3 geological volcanic areas known as Plates which move approximately 2.5 inches per year.     They are also on top of a hotspot where the earth's crust is being melted from below by a mantle plume, creating volcanoes.

Some of the older islands have disappeared below the sea as they moved away from the mantle plume, the youngest islands, Isabela and Fernandina are still being formed, with the most recent volcanic eruption in April 2009 where lava from the volcanic island Fernandina started flowing both towards the island's shoreline and into the centre caldera or cooking pot where steam explosions still occur.

So now we know not to go wandering off, especially in sandals, so let's enjoy a guided tour of some of the many attractions

A giant turtle on Santa Cruz Island, part of the Galapagos Islands.I hope I don't run into this guy on my tour of the island.

Got to go to the beach.

2013 Virtual Cruise - Day 5 - Alaska for the 2nd day.

Day 5, Friday, September 20:  Alaska’s a BIG Place!  So we’re here for two days! Sales Room, Workshops and RTs open to all QC members.  Silent Auction open.  Preview Live Auction items.  Chat Room Activities (9:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time, Social Chat, 6:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time—Houseparty Helper Drawings!)  Special Presentations.   Art Gallery (Exhibits) open.

I'm in a race for acquiring one of the silent auction entries.   It appears that at least one other wants it as much as I do.

One of the activities that they have every day are two workshops with instructions on how to make things.   Flip-flops, glasses, tote bags etc are the type of things being made.   Full color pictures and list of the materials you will need, plus all the instructions.   Easy way to get more things for your souvenir place.

THE NATIVES OF ALASKA, commonly known as "Eskimos", but more properly called Central Yupik (in the Bering Sea area) and Inupiat in the north Arctic, ate very differently from people in warmer climates. Seal meat and oil was important, as were whales, walrus, fish, and birds. Since the climate is so cold, it was important to eat plenty of fats and oils to help keep warm. Seal and whale blubber might not sound appetizing but they can be real life savers when it's 40 degrees below zero!

Each day there are lots of pictures of the location that we are virtually visiting and meals that you could have along with the recipes for those meals.   Several salmon dishes - I might have to try those.

These guys want to get Salmon too!

Until tomorrow!!!!!

One of the activities on this cruise has been a showcase of favorite works by various participants.

The piece that I love ever so much was featured HERE

Not too much today - come back tomorrow.

2013 Cruise Virtual Convention - Day 3

Day 3 (Wednesday): A Day at the Beach

Welcome to Day 3 of our Virtual Cruise! We’re enjoying a day at the beach!

This was a relaxing day and I was able to complete my Souvenir Box.   Certainly like finishing a project during a convention and not dragging an unfinished one home.

A couple tourists are looking at the shop.   Roof isn't on yet, but will be before I finish photographing the scene.   It is about 8 inches long and 4 inch high.   It is a very nice quarter scale.

Table set for lunch.   Family will be right back.

A close up of the table.

A view of the sales room.   Lots of goodies to take your money.

I think I will buy a nightie and a tote, maybe even a hat
I love these awnings, but I didn't want just plain paper.   Packing tape makes it look like vinyl.   Much better look.

Really love this scene.    The people are Railroad O scale.   They work well.

The Plexiglas case is wonderful - no dust, no lost parts.
Come back tomorrow and we will have more fun.

Tote exchange for a Virtual Convention

Virtual conventions have all the goodies a real convention have.   One of those things are all the goodies you get at a convention.   Participating in this requires a commitment early to making things.   Early this year we had to make 27 items and we received 24 back.   The other 3 are put together for large gift bags for convention  attendees.      You wouldn't want to go to a convention without being able to have lots of goodies.

Yesterday I posted what came in my souvenir box and you saw this picture.    It was full of goodies.

The first bunch were totes from Ginger, Lynn, Loraine, Linda and Susan.
They are Mosaic Table, Bag & Hat, Life Jacket, Book and Desk Pad and a Yucca Plant.

The next group are from Janet, Jacquelin, Gail, Kim and Joyce.
The are Pizza, Surf Board & Sunglasses, T-shirt, sun Hat and Beach Bag,  Water & Camera with tote bag, and Suitcase & Suit Bag.

The next group from Linda, Leanna, Bonnie, Lynn & Karen.
We have a lamp, bowl of fruit, sexy nightie, champagne in ice bucket with glasses, and another lamp.

The next group from Cynthia, Luba, Pauline, Cindy, and Sandy.
They are chairs, rug with games, lamp, wheel with sea shells, 4 place settings and a box of Santas ready to mail home.

The last group from Jeannette, Preble, Fern and Tonia

The are hate box, suitcase, box of chocolates, money passport, map and magazine; 3 cakes; camera and book with life preserver and Towel, beach bag, life preserver, book and magazine.

Thanks to all the participants of this process of the Virtul Convention.   I should have lots of things to enhance my souvenir scene.

Day 2, Tuesday, September 17:  We’re landing on Gilligan’s Island!  Workshops Open for Convention Cruise Passengers to Register.  Silent Auction open.  Preview Live Auction items.  Chat Room Activities (9:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time, Souvenir Q&A, 3:00 p.m., Social Chat).  Special Presentations.   Art Gallery (Exhibits) Grand Opening.  No-Charge Raffles (Houseparty Helpers) open for ticket submission.

Art gallery was a collection of participants favorite miniature projects.   I added, of course, a Raggedy Ann Project.

2013 Quarter Connection Virtual Cruise Souvenir Box

There it is.   The souvenir box that has been begging to be opened for at least 2 weeks.   However, you can see that I had to wait until today.

Box opened - what lies within?????

Big old tote bag - I hope I fill it up at the workshops, round tables and auctions.

The box that will hold my souvenir beach shack.

All the parts for the beach shack.

Instructions, wall paper, signs and two palm trees.

All my little tote exchanges.   I made 27 items and received 24 back.   Might get more if I win one of the events during the convention.   Stay tuned and I will let you know what are in the 24 little packages.

2013 Quarter Connection Virtual Cruise - Table Mate Gifts

This is my 2nd virtual convention and it is certainly a great way to go.   I volunteered to be a table hostess and collected the gifts from each table mate and sorted and mailed them to the participants.   them.   This will post on the first day of the convention.   Unfortunately life gets in the way and 2 members were unable to participate in the swap.   These swaps are in quarter scale (1/4 inch equals 1 foot).

Luggage made by Sheila Barker
 wreath by Ruth D Avico
 wreath by Ruth Goodger
 Floor Lamp by Jeannette Anderson
Umbrella, deck chair and ball by Thuy Means
Margarita by Laura Graney

The Margarita is very tiny and you can see a slight tint of green.  That is the Margarita.

Shelf and ring to hold paint by Linda Austin
 Table lamps by Pauline Pier

I will post a lot more about the convention as we experience this virtual experience.

Cruises require a lot of stuff.   Stay tuned for the adventures of the Ten Tiny Traverlers!
